Missing bracing on a Mickleham frame, and why it matters
The most serious recurring finding on Hume corridor frames.
In short: Bracing shown on the engineering plans and never installed is our most serious repeat finding here.
What bracing does
It is how the frame resists lateral wind load. The engineering specifies where it goes and how much.
What we find
Bracing shown on the plans that was simply not installed. Once plaster is on, nobody will ever see it.
Tie-down as well
Metal straps and fixing spacing hold the frame down. Both have been recorded as missing or short here.
Slab level
A slab out of level beyond tolerance shows up at frame, and correcting it late is expensive.
Truss bearing
Trusses landing on walls not built to carry them is a design and build issue that must be resolved before lining.
What it is measured against
AS 1684 and your engineering drawings, with AS 4055 setting the wind classification.
